I want to understand how and why you ended up here working at Buchanan & Buchanan. How and when did you join the team? What were you doing before you came here?
I had been a legal assistant for 30 years when I moved to Grand Rapids. I first joined the Buchanan team in July 2001, and loved it so much I stayed for 7 years. My passion is animals, and in 2008 my husband and I were fortunate to get hired by the largest no-kill animal sanctuary in the country and moved to Utah. We moved back to Michigan in 2016, and I returned to Buchanan & Buchanan.
What would you say most motivates you to do what you do?
Being part of a well-respected team of professionals who truly care for and help people injured by healthcare misconduct. It’s a challenging area of law in Michigan, and I am proud of our work. It’s not “work” when you look forward to each day. The fact that the rest of our team happens to be brilliant and fun-loving is just icing on the cake!
What do you wish other people knew about medical malpractice in Michigan?
I wish people knew how unfair to patients the laws are for medical malpractice claims in Michigan, and how those laws all favor healthcare professionals. Michigan patients have very little recourse when injured by doctor misconduct.
What are you happiest doing, when you are not working?
Volunteering and working with the cats at Crash’s Landing, and knitting.
What are you passionate about?
Animals and animal welfare.
